Metadata Application Profile (MAP)

What is this?

A metadata application profile (MAP) is documentation of how metadata for a collection of items is recorded and structured. Below is the MAP I created for the Science Artist Books collection, in which I attempted to capture the most useful information about each item in the most logical and readable way possible.

  1. ObjectID
    • Cardinality: 1
    • Obligation: required
    • Content guidelines: This field refers to the unique identifier used for each item in the collection. It should be all lowercase with no spaces or special characters (dashes and underscores are acceptable, NOT slashes). Value should be written as the main title of the book (up to 5 words); if the item is a compound object, objectid should also include “_cover” or “_interior” depending on which is accurate for the object.
    • Mapping to Dublin Core: identifier

    • Content guidelines: This field refers to the digital object’s filename including the file extension. It must exactly match the filename of the object in the “objects” directory. Upper- and lowercase of this field should match the filename in the “objects” directory. Value should be written as the main title of the book (up to 5 words); if the item is a compound object, objectid should also include “_cover” or “_interior” depending on which is accurate for the object, and should include “.jpg” at the end of the value.
